Costly defense traits in structured populations

چکیده

We propose a model for the dynamics of frequencies costly defense trait. More precisely, we consider Lotka-Volterra-type models involving prey (or host) population consisting two types and predator parasite) population, where one type individuals - modeling carriers trait is more effective in defending against predators but has weak reproductive disadvantage. Under certain assumptions prove that relative frequency these defenders total converges to spatially structured Wright-Fisher diffusions with frequency-dependent migration rates. For many-demes limit (mean-field approximation) hereof, show goes fixation/extinction if only selective disadvantage smaller/larger than an explicit function ecological parameters.

Association studies for quantitative traits in structured populations.

Association between disease and genetic polymorphisms often contributes critical information in our search for the genetic components of common diseases. Devlin and Roeder [1999: Biometrics 55:997-1004] introduced genomic control, a statistical method that overcomes a drawback to the use of population-based samples for tests of association, namely spurious associations induced by population str...

Equilibria in structured populations.

The existence of a stable positive equilibrium state for the density rho of a population which is internally structured by means of a single scalar such as age, size, etc. is studied as a bifurcation problem. Using an inherent birth modulus n as a bifurcation parameter it is shown for very general nonlinear model equations, in which vital birth and growth processes depend on population density,...

A semiparametric test to detect associations between quantitative traits and candidate genes in structured populations

MOTIVATION Although population-based association mapping may be subject to the bias caused by population stratification, alternative methods that are robust to population stratification such as family-based linkage analysis have lower mapping resolution. Recently, various statistical methods robust to population stratification were proposed for association studies, using unrelated individuals t...

The evolution of labile traits in sex‐ and age‐structured populations

Many quantitative traits are labile (e.g. somatic growth rate, reproductive timing and investment), varying over the life cycle as a result of behavioural adaptation, developmental processes and plastic responses to the environment. At the population level, selection can alter the distribution of such traits across age classes and among generations. Despite a growing body of theoretical researc...

Estimating the evolution of human life history traits in age-structured populations

I propose a method that estimates the selection response of all vital rates in an agestructured population. I assume that vital rates are determined by the additive genetic contributions of many loci. The method uses all relatedness information in the sample to inform its estimates of genetic parameters, via an MCMC Bayesian framework. One can use the results to estimate the selection response ...
